I love painting and drawing and I have increasingly learned to trust what actually emerges along the way, sometimes through layering and always with an element of chance.
I especially love paintings of landscapes. I also enjoy less fully explained pictures (particularly collage), as well as pen illustration and—more recently—life drawing, all of which require a distillation of the essence of what I see and experience.
Creating physical work with my hands and which can be directly experienced seems more important to me than ever before.
Most recently I have invested a lot of time in portraiture, with quick sketches in pen and watercolour (including the thing which has been really quite transformational with this: waterbrushes), and more complete work in oil paint.
